Who is the current Purple Cap Holder in IPL 2023?

IPL Purple Cap Trivia

  • Sohail Tanvir was the first bowler to be awarded the Purple Cap for taking 21 wickets in 11 matches in the 2008 season.
  • The record of most wickets in a single edition is held by Dwayne Bravo (32 wickets in the 2015 season).
  • Bhuvneshwar Kumar is the only bowler to have won the Purple Cap in successive editions of the IPL (2016, 2017)

Rules for IPL Purple Cap

  • The Purple Cap is awarded to the leading wicket-taker of the IPL season.
  • The bowler with the most wickets in the tournament during the season is allowed to wear the Cap in the field.
  • In an event of a tie, the Purple Cap is awarded to the bowler with a better economy rate.

List of all IPL Purple Cap Winners

Sohail Tanvir was the Purple Cap winner in the 2008 inaugural IPL season. The Pakistan left-arm seamer scalped a sum of 22 wickets in the competition and scalped his wickets at a marvelous normal of 12.09.

The principal Indian cricketer to have been the beneficiary of the Purple Cap grant is previous left-arm quick bowler RP Singh, In the 2009 time of the IPL, Singh took 23 wickets at a strike pace of 15.50 to pack the honor.




Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Dwayne Bravo are the only cricketers to have won the Purple Cap on two separate occasions. While Bravo won the honor in 2013 and 2015, Kumar laid his hands on the Purple Cap in 2016 and 2017.

Pragyan Ojha, Lasith Malinga, Morne Morkel, Mohit Sharma, Andrew Tye, Imran Tahir, Kagiso Rabada, Harshal Patel, and Yuzvendra Chahal are the other players to have won the Purple Cap award in IPL history.

Harshal Patel was awarded the Purple Cap during the 14th IPL season. In 2021, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) pacer won the Purple Cap by taking a staggering 32 wickets. Dwayne Bravo, who took 32 wickets in the 2013 IPL season, and Harshal share the record for the most wickets taken in an IPL season. The race for the IPL Orange cap 2023 is also in full swing, and a number of well-known batters are attempting to leapfrog each other now that the 2023 season has already begun.
